Chirp

Terms of Service

1. Introduction & Acceptance

Welcome to Chirp, an audio-first social platform lovingly crafted as a nostalgic homage to Twitter's classic design. We've reimagined social networking with voice clips instead of text posts, bringing back the clean, user-friendly interface that made Twitter special.

Chirp is operated from England, United Kingdom, and is currently in active development. By accessing or using Chirp, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and all applicable laws and regulations. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, please do not use our service.

Chirp is an experimental platform in development and should not be relied upon for critical, urgent, or time-sensitive communications. While we strive for reliability, we make no guarantees about service availability or data persistence.

2. Service Description

Chirp is an audio-first social networking platform that allows users to:

  • Create and share audio clips ("chirps") with the community
  • Follow other users and build a personalized audio feed
  • Engage with content through likes, bookmarks, and replies
  • Exchange direct messages with other users
  • Discover trending audio content

The service is provided "as is" and is subject to ongoing changes, updates, and improvements as we continue development.

3. User Accounts & Responsibilities

3.1 Account Creation

Chirp uses Google OAuth for authentication. By signing in with your Google account, you authorize us to access your basic profile information (name, email address, and profile picture) as detailed in our Privacy Policy.

3.2 Account Security

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Google account used to access Chirp. Please report any unauthorized access immediately.

3.3 User-Generated Content

You are solely responsible for the audio content you create and share on Chirp. You agree not to post content that:

  • Violates any applicable laws or regulations
  • Infringes on intellectual property rights of others
  • Contains hate speech, harassment, or threats
  • Includes personal information of others without consent
  • Is intentionally misleading or fraudulent
  • Contains spam, malware, or malicious code
  • Violates the privacy of others

We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these terms or is otherwise objectionable, and to suspend or terminate accounts that repeatedly violate our policies.

4. Intellectual Property

4.1 Your Content

You retain all ownership rights to the audio content you create and share on Chirp. By posting content on our platform, you grant Chirp a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, distribute, and display your content for the purpose of operating and improving the service.

4.2 Chirp's Intellectual Property

The Chirp platform, including its design, code, and branding, is the intellectual property of Chirp and is protected by copyright and other laws. Our visual design pays homage to Twitter's classic interface. We are grateful to Twitter for inspiring our nostalgic aesthetic, though Chirp is an independent, unofficial project with no affiliation to Twitter, X Corp, or their parent companies.

5. Service Availability

As Chirp is in active development, we cannot guarantee uninterrupted service availability. The platform may experience:

  • Temporary outages or downtime for maintenance
  • Bugs, errors, or unexpected behavior
  • Data loss or corruption (though we make best efforts to prevent this)
  • Changes to features or functionality without notice
  • Complete discontinuation of the service

We strongly recommend keeping backups of any important audio content you create. Chirp is not suitable for critical communications or archival purposes.

6. Limitation of Liability

Chirp is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Chirp and its operators shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from:

  • Use or inability to use the service
  • Loss of data, audio content, or other information
  • Service interruptions or errors
  • Unauthorized access to your account or content
  • Actions of other users on the platform

By using Chirp, you acknowledge and accept these risks.

7. Privacy & Data Protection

Your privacy is important to us. Our collection, use, and protection of your personal data is governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms of Service by reference.

We comply with UK GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and the Data Protection Act 2018. You have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, rectify, erase, and port your data, as detailed in our Privacy Policy.

Please note that while we encrypt data at rest and in transit, direct messages on Chirp are not end-to-end encrypted. Do not use Chirp for exchanging sensitive or confidential information.

8. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to update or modify these Terms of Service at any time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the bottom of this document. For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify users through the platform.

Your continued use of Chirp after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. If you do not agree with the new terms, please stop using the service.

9. Termination

You may delete your account at any time through your account settings. We may suspend or terminate your access to Chirp at any time, with or without notice, for any reason, including but not limited to violations of these Terms of Service.

Upon termination, your right to use the service will immediately cease. We may retain certain data as required by law or for legitimate business purposes as outlined in our Privacy Policy.

10. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms of Service are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of Chirp shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

11. Contact Information

If you have questions about these Terms of Service, please contact us through the platform. As Chirp is in active development, formal contact details will be added in a future update.
